Annual Spring Program for Music Educators

New program designed for music educators to help them advance their skills on the podium.

The Conducting Institute is thrilled to announce its latest initiative tailored exclusively for music educators. This two-day program will improve your conducting mechanics as well as other fundamentals of conducting, helping you to better serve your students and the music. Learn directly from two expert faculty Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Dr. Michael Alexander and work with a lab orchestra to open new possibilities in your conducting!

During the two-day program, 12 participants will participate in 3 sessions with the lab orchestra, totalling 35 minutes of podium time. They will also participate in group seminars that include video review, discussions, and Q&A, led by Maestro Harth-Bedoya and Dr. Alexander.

Eligibility
Music educators currently working in the field of music,
or music-educators-in-training, including student teachers

Participants will choose one of the works below to prepare and conduct at the Institute. In addition to the chosen work, all participants must prepare and conduct “Sikuris” by Carlos Zamora. PDFs of the scores will be made available to participants at no additional charge.

11:00am - 1:15pm – Orchestra Session 1 (two hours 15 minutes)
1:15pm - 2:15pm – Working Lunch for Full Participants (auditors are welcome to bring your own lunch)
2:15pm - 4:30pm – Orchestra Session 2 (two hours 15 minutes)
4:30pm - 5:30pm – Seminar

Sunday, March 10
12:00pm - 12:45pm – Seminar
1:00pm - 4:20pm – Orchestra Session 3 (three hours 20 minutes)
4:30pm - 5:30pm – Closing Session and Q&A

Application - free of charge
Application will consist of a short form, a résumé, and a video of your conducting, which can be with any ensemble, any length, in rehearsal or in performance. Video should be facing the conductor and should clearly show the arms and the face of the conductor. It can be a compilation of multiple excerpts.

Auditors will only need to submit a form. Other materials are optional.
