January 2022
Join us for The Conducting Institute’s Winter Session, led by Miguel Harth-Bedoya, where returning students and selected conductors-in-training will work in a focused and rigorous setting with a live Lab Orchestra.

What
The winter program will focus on Brahms’ Symphony N.4. Through deep analysis from the fall online course, we will apply all the learnings from the podium to develop a deeper understanding of rehearsing and conducting a work from start to finish.
Additionally, we will study and conduct Víctor Agudelo’s La madre de agua, for chamber orchestra.

When
The winter program will run from January 2–7, 2022.
The first session will begin on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 3 PM Central Time.
The final session will end no later than Friday, January 7, 2022 at 3 PM Central Time.Please see full schedule at bottom of this section.

Structure
Ten (10) lab orchestra sessions with no less than 2.5 hours of podium for full-time students, and no less than 1.25 hours for half-time students.
In addition to the full orchestra sessions, there will be string and wind sectionals.
Every conducting participant will be able to record their own sessions and use as desired.
For the 2022 winter program, there are three categories of participation. See below for more details.
Conducting seminars will cover the following: music theory, ear training, instrumentation, score analysis, music of the Americas, string techniques, timpani and percussion techniques, writing techniques, diction and foreign languages, The Orchestra through Time, Maneuvering the Keyboard for conductors, and panels with faculty musicians.

Categories
FULL-TIME participants will receive no less than 2.5 hours of podium time combined, 16 hours of conducting seminar during the January program. and participation* in the 10-week (12.5 hours) online Score Study course.
HALF-TIME participants will receive no less than 1.25 hours of podium time, 16 hours of conducting seminar during the January program, and participation* in the 10-week (12.5 hours) online Score Study course.
AUDITORS (in-person or online) will observe all lab orchestra sessions and participate in all conducting seminars. There is no podium time for auditors. Online auditors are able to review recorded sessions at their own pace for schedule flexibility.
All students, regardless of category, will participate in all classroom sessions.
Classes will be recorded for archival & review purposes.
*Full-time and half-time participants must participate in the 10-week online Score Study course to participate in the winter program.

Tuition
Full-time (2.5 hours of podium time): $2,600
Half-time (1.25 hours of podium time): $1,400
Auditors: $700The above prices do not include the mandatory Score Study course, which should be purchased separately.
Financial aid is available and is awarded on the basis of need. To apply for financial aid, please indicate in your application that you would like to apply, and you will receive a separate application.

An interview via Zoom with Miguel Harth-Bedoya will be conducted as part of the application process. Candidates will be contacted to schedule this interview separately. The interview may include questions regarding your musical background, general music knowledge, and other topics.
Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the class is full.
